Time Square NYC

Manhattan's entertainment capital began its history when the Olympia Theatre opened in 1895, the first of many entertainment venues---from theaters to movie palaces to porn cinemas to strip clubs for which the thoroughfare is famous. Speakeasies alive with jazz in the 1920s became cheaper burlesques and peep shows during the Depression, and it wasn't until the early 90s that a massive cleanup began. Today, it's theme park like, with the ESPN Zone, the M&M store, the world's largest McDonald's, and a newly redone TKTS booth. After its $1.8 million renovation, the Visitor Center has a New Year's Eve "Wishing Wall," where you can  write on confetti that will become one of the actual pieces to flutter down at midnight on January 1. You can also take a free walking tour and watch a video on Times Square's unsavory past in a mockpeep booth. Stop by for multilingual kiosks, MetroCards, a peek in the gift shop, sightseeing and theater tickets, and (most important!) free rerstrooms.
